Time for a cold one. Or three. Got any big socially distanced plans for this Fourth of July weekend?

I’ve actually got a gig tomorrow, the first since the middle of March. Our brass quintet will be playing patriotic music tomorrow morning at a swanky retirement home. I made sure that we are playing in an outdoor courtyard , not inside the building , so I reckon it’s as safe as it can be. The big question will be whether I have the chops to play for 90 minutes after having not played in anger for 3.5 months. Other than that , we’re hanging out and grilling burgers and drinking beer and wine. Pretty typical, all things being equal.

Y’all be safe, Oppo. Yay America!

No big plans over here. We’re self-quarantining in preparation for a trip to my in-laws in south Texas. Given how things are spreading out of control, we may not be making the trip. There’s already been talk of how we can drive the full 12 hours without stopping. I may end up with gas cans strapped to the roof. Of course, the people suggesting that aren’t thinking about how I’m supposed to fill the gas cans in the first place. I’ve told them there are plenty of self-serve stations between here and there that won’t require any personal contact.

People just aren’t thinking straight, whether it’s a laiss ez faire attitude or one born from fear, the “solutions” are getting crazy.

I wouldn’t worry about stopping for gas, but I would probably wear at least one glove while using the pump and then trash it before I got back in the car. I don’t think w e’re not quite at Mad Max levels of road trip . I don’t think I’d want to stay in a hotel right now, though.

We will be having burgers and corn on the cob and avoiding strange humans as much as possible. Probably do some gardening, cycling, and boating. I will miss our usual ritual of getting cups of gelato at Paccugo’s and sitting near the Whole Foods to watch the fire works. It’s the most communal thing we do, and we always run into friends we haven’t seen in a while. But there will be other years for that.

Have fun on your gig. It ain’t The Quarantones, but at least it pays.

We are getting ready to drive to Indy in a couple of weeks. We wonder if our TX plates will make us pariahs on the road by then. :)

Maybe we should start now before they close the borders.

Wow nice van! I wonder if it was refrigerated. Congrats on the gig. But outside? In Texas? Oof. No worries... You can do that standing on your head. I think I had my fun last night, finally doing something i have always wanted to do. Had  a drive in movie night on my roof with around 10-12 socially distanced friends. Projector, white sheet, laptop, the whole deal. A cartoon, two shorts, and a feature. It was awesome....

It’ll be hot, no doubt, but at least it’s outside. They changed the plans, and I thought we were going to be inside. I called the contractor and said, “Nope. I’m not going to sit inside and breathe deeply for 90 minutes.” We’re playing before noon, so it won’t be too terrible. We’re used to it.

You might. I’m worried about getting into Texas, but we might be taking a rental so there’s no telling what plates we’ll have.

If it actually comes to it, the state on your license will probably be what matters, not your plate.

The plate will get you pulled over. The license will get you quarantined.

Or released when you show your rental agreement. At least I would hope it would.
